OUR HISTORY

Nearly 100 Years of Family-Led Business in South Florida

Foundations and Early Growth

In 1929, George L. Royal Sr. established the business that would become Royal Family Businesses. From its beginnings in the heart of the Glades region of western Palm Beach County, he built the company on principles of service, integrity, and community commitment.

Under his leadership, the enterprise quickly earned the trust of local families and became a cornerstone of the region’s growth. When the grocery division was later acquired by Winn-Dixie, the Royal family continued to expand its vision, exploring new opportunities that reflected its entrepreneurial spirit.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND LEGACY

Supporting every division are the company’s own accounting, payroll, and information technology departments, which ensure that operations remain efficient, accurate, and secure. This internal structure allows Royal Family Businesses to maintain high standards across all brands while adapting to changing business needs.

Although our reach now extends throughout South Florida, our headquarters remain in Belle Glade—a lasting reminder of where our story began. Nearly a century later, we continue to honor our heritage by serving with excellence, leading with integrity, and investing in the communities that have shaped our legacy.

Expansion and Diversification

Through the direction of G. L. Royal’s son, Larry Royal, the company evolved into a diversified organization encompassing multiple industries. What began as a single community business grew to include operations in commercial real estate, home furnishings, and quick-service restaurant franchising.

Today, Royal Family Businesses includes:

  • Quick-Service Restaurant Franchising: Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Chicken Salad Chick

  • Retail: Royal’s Furniture stores

  • Real Estate: Ownership and management of nearly 500,000 square feet of commercial and retail properties across South Florida
